Treatment options Child and Family

ouder

We offer several treatment options in English. At the moment, our groups, such as mindfulness or our group for young adults, are only available in Dutch. If you are interested in an English group to be set up, please contact the practice.

Individual Therapy

Target group

Children that experience problems in terms of behavior, mood, fear or social-emotional development.

Content/Summary

Upon the start of individual therapy we set goals together with the child and its parents. During the appointments, the therapist will work on these goals specifically.

Practical information

The treatment will take place at either one of our “Strijpsestraat” locations or at an external health center in your vicinity. The appointments are made by your therapist in consultation with you. Meetings can be held with the child alone, or (partly) including the parents, depending on the needs and age of the child.

Conditions

Intrinsic motivation to work on yourself improves the odds of a successful treatment dramatically. We do, however, get a lot of children that have yet to find, and agree to, the reasons for them being treated. This is no reason to not apply for therapy, since they usually do find motivation during the process itself.

Costs/reimbursement

Since 2015, healthcare for youth is being financed by the municipality. The care and services that Psychology Practice Oog supplies to children under 18 are completely reimbursed by the municipality that the custodians (usually parents) live in. There is no influence on your deductibles, nor does it require contribution of your own. A referral from your GP, medical specialist or municipality worker is necessary to be eligible for reimbursement/compensation.

Signing up

We prefer that you sign up your child via our website. Applications by telephone are accepted on working days between 10:00 and 12:00.

Family therapy

Target group

Children, parents or families that experience problems in family interactions. Sometimes the problems of one of the family members provides an extra challenge to uphold a healthy relationship within the family.

Content/Summary

A family therapist will have talks with a number of family members to get a good view on the communication and interaction within the family, and how it can be improved upon. In a lot of cases, family therapy is utilized as a part of a wider treatment, for example, when the child is also seeing a therapist for individual therapy.

Practical information

The treatment will take place at either one of our “Strijpsestraat” locations or at an external health center in your vicinity. The appointments are made by your therapist in consultation with you.

Conditions

We do, however, get a lot of children that have yet to find, and agree to, the reasons for them being treated. This is no reason to not apply for therapy, since they usually do find motivation during the process itself. Together we will look for a goal that is useful to all participants. That way, we create the intrinsic value needed for successful therapy.

Psycho-diagnostic assesment

Target group

A psychological assesment is utilized when there are questions concerning the development of a child. We look at possible explanations for the child’s behavior, and try to find the right approaches to address these issues regarding upbringing, interaction with the child and treatment.

Content/Summary

During a psycho-diagnostic assesment, we utilize conversations, questionnaires, observations and psychological tests to create a “development profile” of your child. Both strengths and potential weaknesses concerning his/her development are clarified. Developmental disorders like ADHD and autism can also be confirmed/ruled out by psycho-diagnostic assesment. The outcome of such an assesment do not only explain what problems a child might have or experience, it also lends a helping hand to the people surrounding the child concerning how to deal with those issues. Advice and guidelines are formed for both the domestic setting as the school setting.

Practical information

The treatment will take place at our main location at Strijpsestraat 82.The appointments are made by your therapist in consultation with you.

Conditions

During the intake, we discuss with you whether or not a psycho-diagnostic assesment is the right way to go. We will talk about potential issues regarding the stability of your child’s living condition. If that stability is insufficient, we might not be able to measure the test results correctly, as the results may be affected by external situations (e.g. divorce, passing on of close relatives etc.)

Reimbursement of this assesment is arranged by the specialist GGZ. With schoolpsychological assesments, re-indicatory assesments or the absence of a referral, costs of this assesment are billed to the parents. There is the possibility of having this kind of assesment under the “Oog for Growth” department. In some cases, the school will share in the costs. Contact the school of your child for more info on this option.

Intelligence assesment

Target group

Children aged 6 and up as well as adults that have questions concerning the development of their (child’s) intellectual capacities.

Content/Summary

Utilizing an extensive intelligence test (WISC-III / WAIS-IV), we can create an accurate image of the intelligence in general, but also gain a good view on the cognitive capacities in different subsectors. These may be, for example, linguistic skills, visual-spatial skills or the speed at which information is processed.

Practical information

The intelligence assesment is taken individually and takes about 2 to 2 ½ hours. Prior to the assesment there will be an intake conversation. After the assesment, there will be a meeting in which you are informed of the test results and possible advises. You will also receive a written report of the intelligence assesment.

The assesment will take place at our main location on the Strijpsestraat 82.

Costs/reimbursement

The costs for an intelligence assesment are not covered by a base health insurance plan. The costs are 555 euros (no VAT). Some insurance company’s (partially) compensate costs for this assesment from your supplementary insurances. Be sure to validate this with your insurance agent. A referral from your GP, medical specialist or municipality worker is necessary to be eligible for cost compensation.
